Community groups and charitable organisations across Logan Village were treated generously by their local Lions club at the end of 2022.
18 organisations, including Defenders for Hope, Crowson Park Riding for the DisAbled, Rekon Youth Foundation and the Logan Village Cricket Club received financial support as part of half-yearly donations.
Logan Village Lions Club president Phil Notaro said the organisations that received funding were doing work in the community in the spirit of the group.
"With the population base out here growing as quickly as it is there are a lot more charitable groups popping up to support the growing community," Mr Notaro said.
"We tried to support local charities, especially new charities, that needed a leg up and are doing good work in the community.
"We also support sporting clubs because they provide such a good service to the community, and a lot of them are just small operations...there are no rich people running these sporting associations."
Volunteers put in several months' hard work serving up an estimated 9000 sausages at barbecues to raise the funds, which topped $18,000.
The club also raised money via its annual golf tournament and Christmas raffle, and 2022 was a big year of philanthropy for the local Lions club, which also raised more than $12,500 for disadvantaged children through the Variety Bash and donated more than $32,000 to the Lismore Lions Flood appeal.
The Lions club has plans to participate in the Variety Bash again in August 2023, and is currently seeking sponsorship and donations for its bash car, a 1984 Holden Statesman de Ville nicknamed "DV".
Mr Notaro said the club was keen on welcoming new members to the 'pride', however prospective members had to go through a recruitment process.
"You can't just walk up and say 'I want to be a Lion' and be handed a membership card," he said.
"We like people to get to know us, it's essentially a try-before-you-buy situation.
"Come along to one of our social gatherings, come along and volunteer at a few events and see whether you like what we do and if you fit in."
The club president added there was no obligation to join after attending these events, and the main aim of the recruitment process was to ensure the people who did join were comfortable in the environment.
The Logan Village Lions Club meets on the first and third Tuesday every month, and prospective members are welcome at its weekly social gatherings.
These are held every Friday afternoon from 4pm at the Den, located behind the Lions Community Hall on Wharf Street.
The Logan Village Lions Club also welcomes any fundraising opportunities across Logan's south, from Jimboomba to Beenleigh and specialise in barbecue and deep-fried catering.
