LOGAN police are cracking down on speeding after a spate of offences, including a man who was allegedly caught driving nearly 50km/h over the limit.
The 20-year-old from Yarrabilba was caught by officers from the Logan Village Yarrabilba station, who were patrolling near Buccan about noon on July 30.
Police say they activated their mobile radar after seeing a blue sedan travelling at high speed, and recorded the vehicle travelling at 128km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The man will appear in court later this month charged with high end speeding.
Exceeding 40km/h over the limit is the highest speeding bracket for police, with a fine of $1245 and a six month license suspension for first-time offenders.
Constable Craig Murley said speeding was prevalent in Logan.
He had intercepted several other drivers travelling up to 30km/h above the limit late last month.
"Officers from Logan Village Yarrabilba Station will continue to provide a high visibility deterrent in an effort to curb traffic related offences," Constable Murley said.
"Staying safe on our roads means obeying speed limits, whether it's your first or hundredth time travelling that road."
A 37-year-old Beaudesert woman was given a traffic infringement notice after being recorded travelling at 110km/h in an 80km/h zone on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road, Mundoolun on July 31.
Less than a week later, a 23-year-old Beaudesert woman copped a fine after being recorded travelling at 112km/h in a 100km/h zone on the same road.
Waterford Tamborine Road was a hotspot for speeding drivers, with police slapping two women with $444 fines on August 4 after they were nabbed travelling more than 20km/h over the limit.
A 63-year-old Tamborine Mountain woman was recorded driving 82km/h in a 60km/h zone at Tamborine, while at Logan Village, a Greenbank woman was clocked at 102km/h in an 80km/h zone.
A 29-year-old Jimboomba man also copped a fine after he was caught driving 17km/h over the limit on the same road.
A Jimboomba man and a Flagstone woman were also fined in late July.
Officer in charge of Logan Village Yarrabilba station Sergeant Nathan Booth said this was only a small snapshot of Logan's speeding problem.
"We are forming part of a district-wide effort focusing on road safety," Sergeant Booth said.
"These speeding offences only represent a small handful of what officers are seeing throughout the Logan district.
"We want motorists to know that speeding is putting lives at risk which is why we will continue to issue traffic infringement notices to those who make the choice to speed."
It came as police charged 80 people for offences including drink and drug driving, unlicensed driving and high-end speeding during a weekend operation in late July.
In June, Jimboomba police caught a 20-year-old travelling 62km/h over the limit on Teviot Road, behaviour Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh described as ridiculous.
The Logan Village Yarrabilba police division has seen nearly 50 traffic offences in the last three months.
